Ready, Set, AUDITION!

A Fun, Supportive Workshop for Actors of All Experience Levels

Ever wanted to audition for a show but felt a little nervous about singing, dancing, or reading in front of a room full of people? Or maybe you’ve auditioned before and want to feel more confident the next time around!

Join us for two fun, hands-on audition workshops designed to build skills, boost confidence, and help actors feel more comfortable walking into their next audition. Whether you’re a seasoned performer looking to sharpen your skills or a brand-new actor curious about giving theatre a try, this workshop is for YOU! This workshop is for ages 18 and older. A children’s workshop will take place at a later date.

Over two three-hour sessions, you’ll rotate through three exciting workshops led by local theatre professionals:

Preparing Your Audition Song with Emily Vawter
Learn how to choose and prepare an audition song that shows off your strengths, tells a story, and helps you stand out. Bring songs you’re considering for an upcoming audition and get the chance to get advice on which to choose and workshop it with Emily! Don’t want to sing? Don’t worry! You can sit this part out if you like. If you are considering auditioning for the upcoming “Into the Woods” production with CGOA/CCA, keep in mind the requirements are to sing a song from a Sondheim musical (Into the Woods itself is ok to use), an operetta (such as Gilbert and Sullivan), a light opera, or classic Broadway (no pop or contemporary Broadway will be allowed for that particular production).

Learning a Dance Combination with Jennifer Harty
Not a dancer? No problem! Learn how to pick up a dance combination, follow choreography, and move with greater confidence. Discover that you don’t have to be a dancer to succeed in a dance audition—you just need to be willing to jump in and give it a try! Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move.

Cold Reading Audition Sides with Ashly Will
Ever been handed a scene you’ve never seen before and asked to read it on the spot? Learn tips and techniques for approaching cold readings, making strong choices, connecting with your scene partner, and trusting your instincts—even when you don’t have much time to prepare.

Each class will give you time with all three instructors, so you’ll get to practice, learn, ask questions, and build skills in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Our goal is simple: help you feel more confident, take a few risks, try something new, and walk away feeling more prepared for your next audition. Theatre should be fun, and auditioning can be, too!
